Visionworkstv is a website that advertises itself whilst successfully informing businesses and would-be clients of their services. The company’s directors are experienced in the media industry and journalism world so naturally the website plays to these strengths. Largely focusing on the use of third party feedback, there has been no attempt to coverup this sales technique. The website has been built using a mixed media approach, incorporating impressive graphic design, photography, video and a skilled use of language. This makes for an interesting and visually exciting site. This is obviously what the directors want as they are trying to sell their services as business advertisers and journalists. The opening page bares the logo, a few words of description letting you know what they do, and most importantly a video:
‘What our clients say about why you should choose us’
Having this video available before entering the main site means that anyone looking at the site, (be they potential clients or random browsers) need not plough through the different sections of the site in order to get a feel for what it’s all about. Minimising the effort needed by the potential client is a clever way of urging them to take a closer look. Watching a video is less effort than reading and is a good way to communicate the success of the company.
The problem with having text displayed quotes from clients, e.g ‘We enjoyed working with them. . .’ is that it is less interactive with the viewer. The potential client reading the quote has no idea what the person looks like, how they speak or what their body language suggests. An advantage of a feedback video is that it brings these three humanising qualities to the quote. More can be said in video and customer feedback is shown in context, rather than standing alone.
The video itself was uploaded six months ago from Vimeo, a personal video sharing site. I had a look at the source and discovered that it is the only video uploaded by Sean W (company Director) onto vimeo so a different site must have been used for the example videos you find available in the main site. (A small part of me was hoping discover some embarrassingly bad and shameful films that Sean, my tutor might have made in the past but alas. . .nothing.) Vimeo is a very useful uploading site for video, it’s free service and good quality results mean it may be a very handy tool (particularly for online journalism) in the future. Anyway enough free PR work for now!
Promise of a professional team working in collaboration with the client is evident on the Visionworkstv website. With examples of photography work they have done from not only the UK, but abroad as well, it seems they know what they’re doing. I am keenly interested in photography and must say I am impressed with many of the images displayed on the site. The world today is so image focused, in more ways than one, any business looking for promotion needs good imagery based advertising.
Be it video, graphic design, photography, or a mixture of them all, the imagery developed for a business as part of an advertising campaign is going to become recognisable and so needs to be well done.
A botched up image job cannot easily be remedied with good writing. Image is important.
