Space and Time - The video!

Keeping my promise to Nick. . .
below is the finished video I spoke about in my 'Original site for a sofa' blog. Credit for this creation goes to Nick Hayman, Bobby Swarovski and Alexander Phillips. (I played a minor assistant/actor role which suited me. I enjoy dipping in and out of film projects, keeps the creativity flowing!)
Having been around to see the ideas develop and the film shot and the process of editing (and re-editing!), I think the boys have done well portraying their ideas and signifying their personal take on the project title (Space and Time).

A few thoughts from me. . .The constraints of time we experience are not apparent in the footage of nature. In a time lapse a period of time is shot using the same scene. . . No need to rush, time goes on but the space is still there. There is an element of continuity between the natural scenes and animals that inhabit them. Calm in their setting. This quality of synchronised living is absent amongst the people, who seem very involved in their human world and not at all with their natural surroundings. The tortoise with it’s slow movements and lack of hurriedness contrasts with the rushing of people crossing the road. Perhaps the film shows a separation of people from nature. The animals do not look rushed. Then again why would they? Their only task is survival. . .

I hope they are proud of it and I hope you enjoy it!

  1. I definitely agree that your friends did an amazing job. The dynamic shown in the video is significant, especially when it shows the tortoise moving slowly and the movements of the people are sped up, as well as the signs at the beginning and end of the video respectively.
